We are very pleased to announce the release of VIPRE Home and VIPRE Home Premium Update 2 (version 4.0.4182).

Update 2 is a comprehensive release, with a number of fixes and enhancements designed to improve the overall function, performance, stability, and ease-of-use with VIPRE.

This is a free upgrade for all customers with a current maintenance agreement.

This update addresses these key areas:

Added support for Italian and German languages
Enhanced the engine to improve the accuracy of threat removal
Improved the boot-time cleaner to handle copy and delete of files/folders/registry keys
Enhanced the Threat Engine to improve the ability to respond to the changing threat landscape
Improved the ability to clean locked resources
Fixed a compatibility issue with the firewall drivers and certain network miniport drivers
Fixed the Firewall NDIS IM Filter, which caused issues with the Cisco VPN Client
Fixed a bug where computers in the home group could not be seen or accessed on Windows 7
Improved the Web Filter component to add support for sites using “keep alive”

MAJOR FEATURES

Easier to use. Cleaner design, high-visibility buttons, and friendlier-language make VIPRE even easier to use, while retaining the same high-powered functionality users have come to expect from VIPRE.
Faster. Improvements to VIPRE's already lean-and-mean performance make scanning and disposing of threats quicker than ever before.
Spam Filtering powered by Cloudmark®. In addition to scanning emails for harmful attachments and phishing attempts, VIPRE 2012 will also check incoming mail on POP3 accounts for spam and flag them as such.
Enhanced Firewall. The enhanced firewall, only available in the VIPRE Internet Security 2012, will now trust known good programs, while still blocking spyware, worms, key loggers, and Trojans. The VIPRE Internet Security firewall will protect your computer against attacks and will alert you to suspicious events.
Sleek Installation. Installing VIPRE 2012 can be done in as little as three clicks! Using new installer technology, VIPRE 2012 will be completely configured and ready to use after the installation has been completed.
More Options for the Advanced User. Users can create multiple, customized scheduled scans to only scan portions of their machine, and use a fast second scan cache to check only what is changed.
More Help for the New User. GFI's world-class technical support has made VIPRE a favorite for years. With VIPRE 2012, a customized version of TeamViewer™ is included for easy and direct access to GFI Technical Support. In addition, improvements to the other diagnostic tools have been made.

RELEASE NOTES INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGES This release is in the English language currently.. Italian and German will follow soon.

WINDOWS 2000 NOT SUPPORTED Windows 2000 is no longer supported with VIPRE 2012. Current users of VIPRE 4.0 running on Windows 2000 will continue to receive threat definitions.

WINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK 2 REQUIRED Users of Microsoft Windows XP must have at least Service Pack 2 installed, preferably Service Pack 3.

APPLYING DEFINITIONS You may notice an increase in the amount of time that it takes to apply definitions. This is due to additional consistency checks, which prevent the need to download a full set of definitions.

SLOW CONNECTIONS The installation progress may appear to be unresponsive when downloading software or definition updates on slow internet connections. Although the progress bar might not appear to be moving, the download is proceeding.

Service Release 2 for VIPRE 2012 is version 5.2.5162.

Highlights of this release:

Fixed issues where the firewall or web filter drivers would hang
Fixed instances where browsing the internet, or using uTorrent, with web filtering turned on would cause a system hang
Resolve issues with Active Protection
Resolve an issue where incompatibilities with other drivers would result in
